Background

Akwa Honsta began operations in 1991. It is a non-profit housing company governed by an Aboriginal board of directors. All of the directors volunteer their time to be on the board. The day-to-day management of the buildings is done by a professional property management company.

How can I find out if I qualify for "market rent" or a "rent-subsidy"?

This will depend on the amount of your income. Contact the Aykler Management Office at 416.413 .1300 extension 227. If your income places you in the "market" category, then we can rent you an apartment, subject to availability. If you qualify for rent-geared-to-income status, then you must apply to "Housing Connections", which is an agency of the City of Toronto, which administers the waiting list. In both cases, the Aykler Management Office will help you and explain the process. When going to the "Housing Connections" web site, search under "Akwa Honsta", then go to Map # 523, Zone 12.
